Principal appointed for new Educate Together school in Castlebar

Achill native Sarah Calvey is to be the principal of Castlebar’s first Educate Together NS.

The multi-denominational school, set to open in September, will be the second Educate Together site in Mayo.

Regional development officer for Educate Together, Jarlath Munnelly, said Ms Calvey will bring “great experience” to the post.

“We are delighted Sarah has been appointed. I am confident that she will do an excellent job,” he said.

Ms Calvey has been teaching for 13 years and worked in the Educate Together sector for 10 years.

Her most recent role was as deputy principal in Castaheany Educate Together NS in Dublin.

Ms Calvey said the new Castlebar Educate Together school will offer a “culture of equity where everyone can feel a sense of belonging and where human dignity and freedom are recognised and respected”.

Educate Together, which has 74 primary schools and three second-level schools nationwide, opened its first Mayo school, Newtownwhite, at Ballysakeery, Ballina, last September.

The network is an independent Non-Government Organisation.

Educate Together says it guarantees equality of access to all children, irrespective of their cultural, social, or religious background.
