The Erris region is to celebrate its strong link with one of the most famous legends in all of Ireland’s rich folklore, the Children of Lir, with a new festival.
The inaugural Clann Lir Festival will run from May 22 to 25 with a programme to include music, walks, treasure hunting, island exploring, storytelling, dance, crafts and water sports.
According to the legend, the Children of Lir were changed into swans for 900 years by their jealous step-mother.
The children were eventually changed back into their human form on the island of Inis Gluaire, off the coast of Erris, by St Brendan the Navigator.
