The president of Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, Sylvester Jennings, says he expects the new greenway linking Castlebar to the Museum of Ireland’s Country Life site in Turlough will provide a welcome boost to the retail and hospitality sector in the county town.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister of State for Tourism and Transport Michael Ring are both in Castlebar today (Friday ) to perform the official opening of the new 14-kilometre cycling and walking route.

“Castlebar Chamber is delighted with the opening of the greewnway,” said Mr Jennings, ahead of the opening ceremony, which takes place noon in Lough Lannagh Holiday Village.

“It is a fantastic feature which will enhance Castlabar. Both the hospitality and the retail sectors should see an increase in footfall through the town as the greenway goes through the centre of Castlebar,” he added.
