Big entry expected for Westportif ‘Ring of the Reek’

A big entry of more than 1,200 cyclists is expected for this year’s Westportif cycle, which takes place on Saturday July 18 to raise funds for local charity Mayo Roscommon Hospice.

The cycle, dubbed the ‘Ring of the Reek’ is a charity leisure cycle and is part of the Skoda Cycle Series in association with Independent News & Media and takes in the stunning scenery of Croagh Patrick, Connacht’s highest peak Mweelrea, Doolough Lake, Delphi, Killary Fjord, Ashleigh Falls, Leenane village, and the shores of Lough Mask in Tourmakeady.

Cyclists have a choice of two routes of 80km or 160km.

Both routes are well marshalled and are fully supported with water and food stops along the way.

The event is part of a weekend long cycling festival, which includes a family-friendly ‘Bike Buffet’ on Friday, a criterium race around the closed streets of Westport town centre on Saturday evening, July 18, and a novel ‘Garden Cycle’ on Sunday July 19.
