The Men’s Shed movement keeps on growing and growing and, in the shadow of the Nephin, the men of Lahardane and the surrounding area have decided to launch their own drive to set-up a local Men’s Shed.
To help them get off to a good start, the recently formed Glen Neiphin Men’s Shed is hosting a big Strictly Come Dancing night in Hotel Ballina this Sunday.
They are also raising funds on the night for another very worthy cause with a strong local connection, the Sr Mary MacHale Kenya Fund.
The doors open at 7.30pm and a great night looks to be in store when nine local couples take to the floor to show off their dancing skills and raise money for charity.
A native of Lahardane, Sr MacHale is a Sister of Charity of The Incarnate Word. In 1997, she was missioned to Baraka in Kenya, which is close to the Equator in the beautiful Rift Valley.
With the help of benefactors, friends and family, Sr MacHale has carried out alot of charitable work in the region in where she is based, including helping to pay school fees for children who would otherwise not be able to afford an education.

Local people from Lahardane and its hinterland have helped to pay for seed and fertiliser to support the families in Sr MacHale’s community to grow food on their small holdings and some of the fundraising events held over the years have assisted in building two churches and purchasing desks and blackboards for a local school.
The Glen Neiphin Mens Shed was formed last November to provide an outlet for local men to come together and take on tasks for the benefit of the community.
The men share ideas and expertise and learn new skills in an environment that values and welcomes all.
Men’s Shed has grown into a worldwide movement and is a community-based, non-commercial organisations.
The Glen Neiphin Men’s Shed committee has been very well supported locally by the Lahardane Development Council.
Tickets for Strictly Come Dancing event in Hotel Ballina this Sunday are on sale now from Barretts of Lahardane and from DHD Hair Studios Erris Street Crossmolina.
