Record numbers are expected to attend this year’s gathering of the Kelly Clan, which takes place in Westport.
The international gathering of Kellys, Kelleys, O’Kellys, and Ó Ceallaighs takes place from May 15 to 17 at the Castlecourt Hotel.
Famous American author and filmmaker, Mary Pat Kelly, who has written several successful historical novels with an Irish interest, including the 2009 bestseller and critical success, Galway Bay, is making a special appearance over the weekend.
The programme also includes guided tours, taking in Mayo places of Kelly interest; informative talks on all things Kelly; and an overview of an international project to map the Kelly clan DNA, delivered by Aidan Kelly, who is travelling from western Australia for the event.
The highlight of the weekend is a gala dinner at the Castlecourt Hotel.
Mary Kelly, of the Kelly Clan Association, said this is the first time the gathering has been held in Westport since 2003.
“Judging by the amount of interest so far, the event will far exceed our expectations,” she outlined.
“It is a great opportunity for people with a genetic, historic, and cultural link to meet, in a lovely location, with the added benefit of learning about their ancestors, and meeting up with living relatives,” added Ms Kelly.
There is still time to register for the event and further information is available from the Kelly clan website at www.kellyclans.com; by email at [email protected] or by telephone to Des Kelly on (087 ) 2414234.
