Mayo choir Harmonia, a 50-piece group originally made-up of retired teachers, is to perform at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday next (May 6 ) at 80pm.
Harmonia was founded in 2008 by the Retired Teachers’ Association of Mayo, under the baton of Úna Quinn. From its formation, the choir has grown in membership and experience and now comprises more than 50 members. It is a choir for men and women who sing for enjoyment, a sense of community, and bringing music to everyone.
The choir’s repertoire includes a wide variety of musical genres, with classical and sacred songs, some of the great Irish language songs, and contemporary songs.
The choir has performed at the Mayo International Choral Festival and in Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, as well as taking part in many community and charitable events.
Harmonia choir meets weekly in the Gateway Hotel, Swinford, from 11.30am to 1pm.
Initially a retired teachers choir, it now welcome members from all walks of life.
