Kingly drama at the Royal for special Druid production

Druid, Galway’s famous theatre company, is celebrating its 40th anniversary by bringings its most ambitious undertaking ever to stage.

The theatre company has scheduled a Castlebar visit for its production of Shakespeare’s four history plays, Richard II, Henry IV, parts one and two, and Henry V.

The plays will be directed by Tony award winner Garry Hynes and present a new pared down version of the famous Shakespearian works.

The plays will be presented in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, from June 17 to 20.

Described as a “major new theatre event”, the plays are premiering in the Mick Lally Theatre in Galway before embarking on the Irish tour which takes in Letterkenny, Sligo, Limerick, and Skibbereen, as well as Castlebar.

The plays premiere internationally in New York at the prestigious 2015 Lincoln Centre Festival.

Druid commissioned the acclaimed playwright and screenwriter, Mark O’Rowe, to adapt the plays and the making of the plays is also the focus on a new RTÉ documentary.
