Top American roots band for foot-stomping Castlebar show

For an evening of American roots and foot-stomping old-time music, look no further than the top US group Foghorn Stringband, who are set to perform at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday May 13 at 8pm.

The Foghorn Stringband is the present day shining gold standard for American string band music, with eight albums, thousands of shows, more than a decade of touring under their belts, and an entirely new generation of old-time musicians following their lead. Through all of this, they have never let the music grow cold; instead they continue to steadily prove that American roots music is a never-ending well of inspiration.

The music of the Foghorn Stringband today, as heard on their new album Devil In The Seat, revolves around four master musicians. They are Portland-based Caleb Klauder (vocals, mandolin, fiddle ), Reeb Willms (vocals, guitar ), the Yukon’s Nadine Landry (vocals, upright bass ) and Stephen ‘Sammy’ Lind (vocals, fiddle, banjo ).

Each member of the Foghorn Stringband comes not only from a different part of the American roots music spectrum, but leads the pack in his field as well.

Onstage, they gather around one microphone, balancing their music on the fly, and playing with an intense, fiery, abandon.

Foghorn Stringband perform at the Linenhall Arts Centre on Wednesday May 13 at 8pm. Booking is advised. Special Bealtaine rate for over 65s apply.
