All 15 of the beaches in Mayo that are monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency have successfully met the new, stricter, European water quality standards.
The EPA said this week that 75 per cent of the bathing spots they are measuring in Ireland were above the standards, qualifying as ‘excellent’.
In Mayo, that figure was much higher. More than 93 per cent of the county’s beaches (14 of 15 ) were assessed as having excellent water quality and the remaining beach was ‘good’.
