Mayo County Council has granted planning permission for the €11 million redevelopment of the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar.
The planning permission, with 13 conditions attached, “represents a fundamental step in providing a world-class facility for the people of Mayo”, according to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
“I would like to compliment the planning section of Mayo County Council for the way they have gone about this task and the clarity of the conditions they have set out,” said Mr Kenny.
This project will go to tender next month and a contractor will be appointed in September.
The project involves the development of a new two-storey unit to provide 78 single rooms.
