Mayo Concert Orchestra is launching a tour of the county with performances in Castlebar, Belmullet, Achill, Ballina, Westport, and Ballintubber, to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The colourful programme for the concerts includes many well-known classical pieces as well as hits from the musicals and even some popular television theme tunes.
Members of the public, whether they are long time fans of orchestral music or complete newcomers to the genre, are being encouraged to find their local concert and enjoy an evening of uplifting musical entertainment.
The current musical director of the Mayo Concert Orchestra is George Lee, who has been with the group since it was founded in 1995.
The first performance of the countywide tour is in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, on April 24 at 8pm with special guests Mayo Youth Orchestra, mezzo soprano Anna-Louise Costello, and Belcarra soloist Ronan Egan.
On May 1, the orchestra performs in Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, at 8pm, followed by performances at 8pm on May 6 in Óstán Oileán Acla, Achill, and on May 8 in Ballina Arts Centre.
It is then off to Westport on June 19 when the orchestra performs at 8pm in the town hall.
On June 21, the orchestra is taking part in the Williams Syndrome Fundraiser in Ballintubber Abbey.
Tickets for the Castlebar concert, costing €15 or €12 with concession, are available now from Gavin’s, Spencer Street; Downtown Records; Castlebooks, and O’Donnell’s Pharmacy, Ellison Street.
Tickets are also available on the door on the evening.
As the annual concert has sold out in recent years, it is advisable to book early.
