New artisan food and music festival for Castlebar

Castlebar is getting a new, one-day, artisan family festival.

The town’s Military Barracks will provide the atmospheric surrounds for the inaugural Artisan Castlebar Food and Music Festival on May 30, which is expected to draw between 2,000 and 4,000 people to the county town.

Tickets for the event go on sale today (Friday ).

The barracks is set to be transformed into a colourful feast of music and foodie offerings, with two outdoor stages and up to 50 local artisan food, drink and craft stalls.

Top chefs from the region will deliver live cooking demonstrations all day, while leading music acts from across Ireland will also perform.

Chefs confirmed so far include Flogas Mayo Masterchef winner, Barry Ralph, and chef, restauranteur and author JP McMahon, who owns Galway Michelin star restaurant Aniar.

Powerful balladeer Damien Dempsey, upbeat rockers The Young Folk, and eight-piece Sligo sensation Tuscan, are all confirmed for the festival, with more acts to be announced over the coming weeks.

Local music acts will also be showcased on an acoustic stage.

The festival grounds will include a children’s play area with bouncy castles, face painting, and games. Children under 12 go free.
