Foxhall to host weekend of activities to raise funds for Hospice

A local committee, based at Tierney’s Foxhall, will host a major fund-raising effort in aid of Galway and Mayo Hospice Services culminating in an Easter weekend packed with events. Over the last few weeks the dedicated volunteers of the committee have been selling tickets and raising sponsorship.

Tierney’s Bar and Lounge, situated on the Galway/Mayo border, is a popular venue for entertainment and social events. The area has a long and proud history of supporting charitable organisations. This tradition is continued by this new and dynamic committee, encouraged by the present proprietor of Tierney’s, Tom Kelly and his family.

The weekend will kick off on Saturday, April 4 with an u14 football game between Kilconly and Carras in Kilconly GAA pitch for the Brian Mullen Cup, to be followed by a game between Kilconly and Garrymore for the PJ Murphy Cup. Entertainment will be provided by Brendan McGee on Saturday night in Tierney’s Lounge.

On Easter Sunday, April 5 a tractor run will take place leaving Tierney’s at 1pm sharp, it will head to Deila Murphy’s in Cross, then on to Crossboyne, Claremorris, Ballindine, Miltown, Kilconly (via Liskeavy ) and back to Foxhall. Fundraising with take place during the drive with a bucket collection.

The evening will conclude with entertainment provided by the fabulous John Hogan and his band. A host of spot prizes will be raffled and also an auction of will take place for assigned Galway and Mayo jersey.

Chairman of the committee, Tom Kelly said: “Although we are in recessionary times we are honoured to support this fundraising event for Galway and Mayo Hospice work, which will allow the organisations to continue providing its services to those who need them. Everyone recognises the great care given by those wonderful people at times when patients and their families might be most vulnerable. We should be thankful for the good health we enjoy and it would be nice to use this opportunity to contribute to the comfort and care of others.”
