Band of brothers, We Banjo 3, announce Mayo date

One of the most exciting bands on the Irish folk scene right now, We Banjo 3, have announced details of a nationwide tour this April, which includes a Mayo date.

The Galway band of brothers have just released their first single, The Fox, featuring Sharon Shannon on the accordion and have won numerous awards for their first two studio albums.

Made up of two sets of brothers, Enda and Fergan Scahill and Martin and David Howley, there is more than banjos to the deceptively named group.

The band also features fiddle, guitar, vocals, mandolin, and percussion, seamlessly blending Americana and Irish music.

They have been taking the awards scene by storm with their debut album Roots of the Banjo Tree winning the Irish Times Trad Album of the Year and their 2014 offering GAther the Good winning four different Album of the Year titles.

We Banjo 3 is also getting ready to release a live album in June following the critical success of the two studio albums.

Last year, the band played in 14 different countries including headlining festivals in the US, Denmark, the UK and Germany.

"We Banjo 3 are a musical Betty Ford Clinic, almost single handedly rehabilitating the much maligned banjo in 4 short years," said Siobhan Long of the Irish Times. The Irish Echo described the music as “fabulously executed, brilliantly arranged, jaw-dropping.”
