Three-month sentence for man found in possession of drugs

A Claremorris man who had a number of previous convictions for drug possession was given a three-month sentence for possession at Claremorris District Court (sitting in Kiltimagh ) this week.

Aaron Lynch, 6 An Tinteann, James Street, Claremorris pleaded guilty to the charges. In his evidence Garda Russell Gibbons told the court he stopped Lynch at 5.09pm on March 29 2008 and searched him. He found a small bag of cannabis in Lynch’s hand during the search, which Lynch admitted was for his own use.

Solicitor for Lynch, Evan O’Dwyer, told the court that his client is known to the gardaí and has always co-operated with them when he has been stopped. He continued saying that “he has what can only be described as an addiction and whenever he has been caught he has put his hands up and taken his beating here in court.” Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Lynch €500 and sentenced him to three months in prison.
