A Claremorris woman was convicted and fined €350 and ordered to pay €500 costs in Claremorris District Court this week for illegal dumping.
Paula Omar, 13 Grattan Manor, Grattan Park, Claremorris pleaded guilty to the charges in court. Tom Currivan, litter warden for Mayo County Council, told the court that on July 13 2008 he was on duty in Claremorris and found two bags of rubbish dumped in Chapel Lane. They were two bags of domestic household waste. After investigating the bags he found some correspondence with Omar’s name and address on it, so he forwarded a fixed penalty notice, but no payment was received.
Omar’s solicitor told the court that her client was very sorry for the incident and that her client was previously employed in a laundrette, but is now currently unemployed and in receipt of medical benefits. Judge Devins convicted and fined her €350 along with ordering her to pay €500 costs to Mayo County Council.
