Runners, joggers, and walkers in Claremorris and beyond are warming up for the first measured 10k event taking in the beautiful surrounds of Clare Lake.

The event is set for Saturday March 21 starting at 12 noon, and organisers are hoping for a strong turnout as they are planning to develop the race into a thriving annual fixture.

According to one of the organising volunteers, Ann Ronayne, the route is particularly scenic and will make the event a very attractive outing for the whole community.

The race starts and finishes at Claremorris Golf Club.

It passes through the Land of the Giants, a forest trail with fun, sculptural installments, and also takes in a stunning lakeside section.

“This is the first measured run of its kind taking in Clare Lake,” said Ms Ronayne. “The route is really beautiful and it should be a very enjoyable event. We are hoping it will be the first of many such events at the lake.”

Ms Ronayne said the race was supported by Claremorris Smarter Travel.

“Claremorris Chamber of Commerce and the Clare Lake Committee have also been hugely supportive and very proactive in getting this off the ground,” added Ms Royane.

The 10k is also the penultimate event in a five-race series called the Great Lakes Challenge so this should really add to the atmosphere on the day.

“While it is part of the series, it is also a standalone event so anyone can come along and take part on the day,” added Ms Ronayne. “Children under 16 go free so all are welcome.”

Participants can visit www.runireland.ie to enter or enter on the day of the 10k from 10am at the golf club.

The first 100 entrants will receive a free technical T-shirt.
