While there was much dismay locally in Claremorris when the deadline passed on Friday for a mystery Lotto winner to claim a €2.9 million jackpot, Mayo's Lotto luck hasn't run out just yet.
Another Lotto millionaire was made just a few miles down the road in Roches Centra, Balla, yesterday evening (Monday ).
One lucky customer of the busy convenience store purchased a €1.50 Quick Pick on the same day as the draw, and won the top €1 million jackpot prize in the Daily Millions competition.
Not a bad return on the investment, joked a spokesperson for the National Lottery this morning.
The Daily Millions is, as the name suggests, a daily draw with a top prize of €1 million and was launched two years ago by the National Lottery.
Danny Roche, owner of the Centra store which sold the ticket, said he got word last night at 10pm just as he was closing the shop.
“There was great excitement when we found out. Nobody has come forward yet. They might not even know yet themselves,” he said.
Mr Roche said it was unfortunate what happened in Claremorris with the deadline passing for the prize to be claimed but it is very unlikely to happen again.
There has only ever been 12 unclaimed jackpot prizes since the National Lottery was launched in 1987.
