The hotel and catering trade in Mayo has found a new advocate in industry consultancy company Hospitality West. The training and consultancy company which also offers customers and candidates a fully licensed recruitment agency specific to the trade has been full steam ahead since its inception into the sector late last year. According to its founder Mark Quinn, the tourism industry here is gearing up for a busy season. “We are busy this time of year with establishments getting ready for the spring season which will kick off in a month or so. A lot of places are looking for staff much earlier so that they have a good team ready to meet the demand of the Easter break,” explained Mr Quinn
Hospitality West also provides food safety consultancy and training and the team have been engaging with many food businesses since the recent allergen legislation arrived in December as Mr Quinn remarks. “Definitely the allergen legislation has meant a lot of work to be carried out by food businesses, but we have been able to provide assistance through staff training and menu consultancy with our clients. Chefs and proprietors are much more confident about the requirements after we sit down with them and discuss what areas need to be covered and how best to do just that.”
The company’s facets do not stop there, with regular training courses designed to up skill workers both in the industry and those hoping to make a career in it. On Monday March 6, Hospitality West will be running one of these courses, this time in food and beverage service. This one day course will include a wide variety of professional service techniques and insights such as food safety, order taking, delivery, table arrangement, wine and beverage service, and silver service. The day will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm approx in Seasons restaurant, Castlebar, and lunch and refreshments are included as part of the package.
