Hardy cyclists called for epic WAW adventure

Well-known Castlebar DJ Johnny Oosten, the Western Care Association, and the Irish Cancer Society have joined forces to launch an epic charity cycle this May that is sure to appeal to many an adventurous soul.

The inaugural Wild Atlantic Way Charity Cycle Challenge 2015 stretches along 1,600 kilometres of stunning Atlantic scenery, and organisers are inviting people to take on either the entire route or to sign-up for a section as the event has been broken into 14 different stages over two weeks.

A group of nine hardy Mayo cyclists, and a support team, have already agreed to take part in the challenge.

They will kick-off the ambitious western odyssey on May 8 in Kinsale, cycling 1,600 kilometres along the coastline before making their way to Derry for a Friday May 22 finish.

On each day the group will be joined by local cyclists taking on one or more of the 14 different stages.

The Minister of State for Tourism and Transport, Michael Ring, was in Westport recently to officially launch the challenge.

To get involved in the Wild Atlantic Way Charity Cycle Challenge 2015, email Mr Oosten at [email protected], register online at www.iregister.ie/wawcycle2015 after March 1; or find it on Facebook.
