Specsavers is well-known as an eye health and care brand.
Now, the company’s Ballina store is tuning into ear health too by offering a new service to address hearing loss at the Specsavers store on Tone Street.
The store has launched a hearing clinic with a resident consultant audiologist from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
According to Padraig McGowan, hearing director at Specsavers Ballina, recent research carried out by Specsavers on the attitudes of Irish people towards hearing loss, almost half of those surveyed said that gradual hearing loss is part and parcel of getting old and not necessarily a condition that can be treated.
However this is not the case, he said.
“It is time to remove the stigma associated with hearing loss and to normalise it, much as we have already done with glasses, by offering people easy access to top quality, affordable, hearing services that can be fitted on the same day as testing,” said Mr McGowan.
“We are very pleased to be offering the people of Ballina and surrounding areas the opportunity to avail of a free hearing test and to have any questions they may have answered.”
Specsavers’ hearing centres offer a free, three-minute, hearing screening. The screener then lets customers know whether they would benefit from having a full hearing test, which takes about one hour.
If required, digital hearing aids are sold as part of a complete hearing package.
A starting price of €750 includes two hearing aids, four years’ worth of batteries, and a four year guarantee.
