Mayo moved into second place on the league table on Sunday, when they pulled off a five point win away to Dublin in the DCU Sports Grounds.
Frank Browne's charges picked up their second win on the bounce after their opening day defeat to Cork, thanks in no small part to Cora Staunton who scored eleven points over the hour against the metropolitans.
Mayo goalkeeper Aisling Tarpey pulled off a penalty save from Nicole Owens inside the first minute and that save set up the rest of the game, where Mayo looked composed and confident throughout. Staunton kicked a brace early points to put Mayo two to the good and they never once fell behind in the game. Cora went on to kick seven points in the opening half with Rachel Kearns chipping in with one as Mayo went in leading by 0-8 to 0-3 at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half, with Mayo shutting down the Dublin attack throughout and Staunton keeping the scoreboard kicking over keeping Dublin's challenge at bay.
Frank Browne can only be happy with how his side have started this years league campaign so far and with a home game against a winless Tyrone coming up this weekend he'll be expecting a third win on the trot for his ladies.
