Strictly dancers called to shine a second time for charity

Strictly Come Dancing stars from around the county are being called to do battle on the dancefloor in a bid to be crowned Mayo’s Strictly champion couple.

The event is inviting couples who participated in a past Strictly to let their dancing skills shine for a second time against other couples from around Mayo in Strictly Come Dancing - The Winners.

It is open to all previous Strictly Come Dancing participants.

Twenty places will be offered on a first come, first served, basis to those who register and fundraise a minimum of €250, which secures a place in the competition and covers all costs for the event.

The participants can then proceed to fundraise for their own cause, rehearse their dance routines, and compete to win the top prize of €1,000 for their charity.

The 20 couples will do battle on April 10 in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, beneath spotlights and glitter balls.

On registration, couples must choose two dances from a cha cha cha, waltz, or jive.

The music for their chosen dances will be sent to them upon registration. They can then prepare their dances over the coming weeks

The scoring will be the same as in other Strictly Come Dancing events, a 50 per cent bucket collection on the night and 50 per cent judges’ scores but the final three will take part in a dance off with the winner decided on dancing skills only.

The organising charity, Western Care Association, will share 50 per cent of the bucket collection while funds raised prior to the event remain with the participants’ charities.
