Claremorris Fianna Fáil team selected

Four candidates have been selected by Fianna Fáil to contest the Local Elections this June in the Claremorris are.

The three sitting councillors Michael Carty, Pat McHugh, and Damien Ryan will be joined by Gerard McHale in contesting the election.

Cllr Michael Carty was co-opted to Mayo County Council in 2003 and was elected in 2004. He lives in Knock and is married with two daughters and one son. He is on the Mayo County Council Planning Strategic Policy Committee and is a director of the Knock Community Centre.

Gerard McHale is a first-time candidate. He is from Dromineen, Claremorris, and is a qualified accountant. He is the current secretary of the Claremorris Soccer Club. He is also the current secretary of the Claremorris branch of the Irish Red Cross and a member of the local emergency response group, which provides 24-hour ambulance cover to the local community. He is a member of the Fianna Fáil National Executive.

Cllr Pat McHugh was first co-opted to Mayo County Council in 1988 and was elected at each subsequent election. He is the Fianna Fáil whip on Mayo County Council since 1991. He is a past president of the Claremorris Chamber of Commerce and was Chair of Mayo County Council from 1996/1997.

Cllr Damien Ryan is a member of the BMW Regional Assembly and a member of the Western Regional Authority. He is a member of Mayo IFA and Mayo GAA. He is involved in a wide range of community groups in south Mayo.
