Ballina man fined for trespassing

A Ballina man was fined in the local district court on Tuesday for trespassing at a building site at Quignalecka.

Justin Cawley, 7 Tom Clarke Place, Ballina, came before Judge Mary Devins in relation to an incident at around 2.40pm on March 12 last.

On the day, gardaí were called to a report of two men stealing at the site.

One of the owners of the properties, Brian Bourke, said his foreman spotted the men in a blue Ford Transit. When they were challenged, they unloaded a number of manhole covers and steel from the van onto the road and left.

Gardaí stopped the van at Bonniconlon.

Solicitor for Cawley, Peter Loftus, said his client admits he was on the property on the afternoon in question.

He said his client left the site immediately upon being challenged and nothing was removed.

Judge Devins heard Cawley has eight previous convictions for public order, road traffic offences and criminal damage.

Judge Devins fined him €150.
