The HSE has confirmed eight new posts are to be created to develop a special ‘psychiatry of old age’ team in Ballina.
The posts are part of 52 new HSE positions announced last week.
They include include a consultant psychiatrist, senior occupational therapist, dietician, and nursing staff.
The team will specialise in assisting and supporting older people in the community dealing with mental health challenges.
It is the second such team for the county, with the other based out of Castlebar.
