Luxurious fairytale weddings in an historic castle or a do steeped in the old world charm of a country lodge are very much back in vogue in 2015.
Two of Mayo’s castle hotels, Ashford in Cong and Belleek, Ballina, have made it on to a list of the top 100 places to get married in Ireland this year, while country homes, The Lodge at Ashford and Mount Falcon, Ballina, also feature among the most sought after venues for Irish wedding couples this year.
The fifth and final Mayo venue featured in the guide, which is composed annually by the popular wedding webstie One Fab Day, is The Ice House, Ballina.
All five of the Mayo venues are among the county’s top hotels, with plenty of history and awards to their names, not to mention a reputation for style and luxury.
According to Naoise McNally, founder and editor at One Fab Day, this ties in with the trend of a “return to luxury” for couples planning their big day in 2015.
“Each year the locations Irish people choose for their weddings become more diverse and non-traditional,” she said.
“However, in 2015 weddings are set for a return to luxury. While rustic barn weddings are still a hot choice for couples, DIY weddings are slowly cooling, and glamour is coming back. Couples are choosing old-school luxury in the form of members clubs, aristocratic castles, and grand country houses.”
