Germans targeted at holiday fair in Stuttgart

Tourism Ireland in Germany kicked off its busy programme of promotions for 2015 last week – with a strong presence at CMT (Caravan, Motor and Tourism Fair ) in Stuttgart.

Tourism Ireland was joined at CMT by tourism enterprises from right around the island of Ireland – including Tourbiking Ireland (based in Ballina ). Attracting more than 240,000 visitors in 2014 – including leading travel writers, tour operators and travel agents, as well as many thousands of German holidaymakers looking for ideas and suggestions for their next holiday destination – the nine-day travel fair provided a valuable opportunity for the participating Irish companies to showcase and sell their product and to communicate what is unique about Mayo and Ireland as a holiday destination.

Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe, said: “2014 was a record year for German visitors to Ireland and Tourism Ireland will be rolling out an extensive programme of promotional activity throughout 2015 – to keep the momentum going and build on that growth. CMT in Stuttgart is our first major promotion of 2015 in Germany, providing an excellent opportunity to spread the word about all the great things to see and do in Ireland and to raise awareness about the exciting programme of events taking place this year, including ID2015 (the year of Irish Design ) and Yeats 2015.”

Promoting the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route will continue to be a major focus of Tourism Ireland’s activity in Germany and elsewhere around the globe in 2015; the organisation will also showcase the new Dublin Discovery Trail. This year marks 150 years since the birth of world-renowned Irish poet and Nobel laureate, WB Yeats; Tourism Ireland will promote Yeats 2015 – particularly to its ‘culturally curious’ audience. Tourism Ireland will also highlight ID2015, a showcase of the best of Irish design, raising the profile of Irish design and designers and showing how they reflect our culture, helping to give us ‘stand-out’ on the world stage.
