The legendary Status Quo tour comes to The Royal Castlebar Theatre and Event Centre on Saturday February 7. It is estimated that Status Quo have played more than 6,000 live shows to a total audience in excess of 25 million people. In doing so, the band have travelled some four million miles and spent over 23 years on the road.
When you talk about the legends of British rock the name Status Quo is always on the list. The Quo are your archetypal English rock band and join an elite group of artists who have continued to thrill audiences since the sixties. Status Quo have some amazing stats – no fewer than 64 British hit singles, of which 22 have made the top ten and they have sold more than 118 million records since they first formed in 1967.
The Quo opened Live Aid with the song which was to become the event’s anthem ‘Rockin’ All Over The World’ and were also involved in the Band Aid project. Their longevity ensures that they are never far from the spotlight and appearances on TV soap Coronation Street in recent years have only added to their celebrity. The current Quo line up consists of original members Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt alongside keyboard player Andrew Bown, who joined in 1976, John ‘Rhino’ Edwards on bass, who joined in 1986, and drummer Matt Letley, who arrived in May 2000.
They are one of the most successful bands in British history after the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. From the late sixties to the mid eighties they had a string of hits, including ‘Down, Down’, ‘Roll Over Lay Down’, ‘Again and Again’, ‘What You're Proposing’ — all timeless rock anthems. This is a special concert from a truly unique band. Don’t miss out. Tickets can be booked through www.theroyal.ie, www.ticketmaster.ie, any Ticketmaster outlet nationwide or, for the price of a local call, the box office of The Royal Castlebar at 0818 300 000.
