Man found with cannabis given chance

A 41-year-old Knock man will avoid a conviction for possession of cannabis if he pays €150 to the Ceanacolo Community, a Knock based group that helps people suffering from addiction.

Dennis Nolan with an address of 19B Rosebury Court, Knock, Co Mayo pleaded guilty to the possession charge in Castlebar District Court this week. Garda Kieran McGrath told the court at 6.30pm on April 7, 2014 at 6.30pm he stopped Nolan and searched him. He found two small bags of cannabis in his possession, which, when tested, was valued at €86. Garda McGrath told the court that Nolan told him it was for his own use.

Nolan told the court that he used to use cannabis, but not since the arrest. Judge James Faughnan told Nolan he would give him one chance, and if he paid €150 to the Ceanacolo Community by May 19 he wouldn’t record a conviction against him.
