Declan O’Rourke for Garbos gig next month

Local music promotor Finbar Hoban is bringing Irish singer and songwriter Declan O’Rourke to Garbos venue in Castlebar on Friday February 27.

Declan O’Rourke, best known to many for his song ‘Galileo’, has received much critical acclaim for his song writing, singing and performances since his debut 2004 album Since Kyabram opened at number five in the Irish charts.

The album went on to score double platinum sales and earned O’Rourke three Meteor Award nominations, for Best Male, Best Album, and Best Folk/Traditional Album.

The album’s success confirmed O’Rourke as one of the leading lights on the Irish singer and songwriting scene and opened his music up to an international audience.

Paul Weller is a firm fan. In 2012, speaking to Mojo Magazine, he described ‘Galileo’ as “possibly the greatest song written in the last 30 years”.

American superstar Josh Groban has covered ‘Galileo’ on his album Illuminations.

A consummate and versatile performer, O’Rourke has played to sold out crowds all over Ireland, entertained three Irish presidents and the King of Sweden, featured regularly on television and appeared at festivals such as Glastonbury, Oxygen, Electric Picnic, and The Cannes Film Festival.

He has also supported New Zealand indie-sensation Bic Runga and multi-platinum group Snow Patrol.

O’Rourke will be supported by Verse Chorus Verse for his Garbos gig.

Tickets, costing €20, are on sale now from Downtown Records and Hogs Heaven. For further information, visit www.finbarhobanpresents.com
