Moylette goes for national title tonight

St Anne’s boxer Ray Moylette will be looking to bring the National Elite championship home with him this evening when he steps into the squared circle in the National Stadium. Moylette will face off against the defending champion Dean Walsh from the St Joseph’s/St Ibar’s club in the light-welterweight final. Moylette overcame the challenge of his old foe Ross Hickey in last Friday night’s semi-final in impressive style.

Hickey had previously beaten Moylette in the final in 2013, but he had no answer to Moylette’s power packed display which saw Hickey take a standing count in the third round. Moylette’s performance showed that the 2008 World Youth and 2011 European Elite champion is back at the top of his game. His opponent this evening saw off the challenge of Patrick Mongan in his semi-final last week and the defending light-welterweight champion will be another tough nut for Moylette to crack. TG4 will be showing live coverage of the finals on Friday night, with coverage going live on air at 7.30pm when the first bout is scheduled to go to the bell. Moylette’s fight is the sixth fight on the bill.

On Saturday night Geesala’s Louise Donohue will be action in the lightweight final where she will take on Galway boxer Debbie O’Reilly for the title that was won last year by Katie Taylor.
