Lynda Huxley, of GMIT Campus, Castlebar, will give a talk called The Amazing Swifts of Mayo on Tuesday January 20 at 8pm at the Westport Coast Hotel. These amazing birds do not touch land for the first two years of their lives, and only do so later to build nests and raise their young. There has been a 46 per cent drop in the population of these birds in Ireland, and Huxley will discuss the reasons for this, conservation measures to preserve the birds, and tell us about these harbingers of spring. More details from Pip Murphy on (087 ) 2663423.
