A man who was driving a trailer without any lighting at 8pm on an April evening was lucky not to be facing dangerous driving charges, according to district court Judge Grainne O’Neill this week in Ballina Court.
Garda John Barrett detected Tony Cullen, Rathnamaugh, Crossmolina, pulling a trailer with no lighting and driving a car without motor tax on April 12 last.
Solicitor for Mr Cullen, Michael Bohan, said his client only owned the car for about six months prior to the detection and the car has since been scrapped.
Judge Grainne O’Neill said using a trailer without lights was extremely dangerous.
“He’s lucky he wasn’t charged with dangerous driving,” remarked the judge.
Judge O’Neill fined Cullen €250 for no tax and €150 for using the trailer without lights.
