Funding secured for podiatrist for diabetes services in Mayo

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has welcomed the announcement that funding for a Podiatrist for diabetes services in Mayo has been secured.

Minister Ring stated: “This is something that has been sought for quite some time and I am very pleased that funding has been provided for this. In 2010, the HSE sanctioned the development of a National Footcare Programme, employing 16 senior podiatrists to identify, assess, and treat people with diabetes at high risk of developing serious foot ulceration thus preventing loss of limb.

“At that time Mayo was not allocated one of these posts but now funding has been approved for a podiatrist for Mayo.

“It is hoped that the recruitment process will start shortly to fill the post. This is welcome news for people who suffer with diabetes in Mayo,” Minister Ring concluded.
