Visit the Céide Fields for free

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring is encouraging people in Mayo to visit one of the country’s most famous heritage sites - the Céide Fields - and enjoy the experience free of charge, on the first Wednesday of every month.

The free entry, at the oldest known field system in the world, in north Mayo, is part of an OPW initiative which offers free entry to heritage sites all over the country, once a month.

“Mayo is rich in history that we often take for granted,” said Minister Ring. “The first free Wednesday concession is a great opportunity for everyone to find out more about our local area and in turn to encourage others to visit these sites.

“I would particularly appeal to schools and community groups to consider local heritage sites as a possible outing and if the trips are arranged for the first Wednesday of the month, they will be completely free.”
