Former World Youth and European senior champion Ray Moylette from St Anne’s Boxing Club in Westport is in action in the semi-finals of the Irish Elite Championships this evening (Friday, January 16 ).
Moylette overcame the challenge of Jason Conroy 3-0 in last weekend’s quarter-finals 3-0 in the National Stadium in Dublin.
His win in the last eight set up a semi-final showdown against old rival Ross Hickey, himself a former European senior bronze medallist. Each man have faced the other twice before, claiming one win each.
Speaking to www.iaba.ie about the bout Moylette said: “It’s good to have a derby to keep things fiery,” while Hickey said: “It should be good, looking forward to it.”
Ballina’s Elaine Harrison will be boxing against Belfast’s Kristina O’Hara in the semi-final of the 51kg women’s championships also on Friday evening in the National Stadium.
