Paperwork the reason for Duffy not starting

GAA: Connacht FBD League

Despite being named in the program to start the game at midfield Ballina native Gavin Duffy was a late withdrawal from the starting line up before throw-in on Sunday in the second round of the FBD League against IT Sligo in Ballina.

The former Connacht rugby captain and Irish international was replaced before throw-in by fellow local Alex Corduff. The reason for Duffy's withdrawal prior to throw in was over a paperwork issue joint Mayo manager Noel Connelly confirmed after the game. The Salthill-Knocknacara man was brought into the county panel last year in the middle of the season by former manager James Horan but failed to get any game time in the 2014 championship. Connelly did say that he was hopeful that Duffy will be cleared to play in time for next weekends game against Roscommon.
