Gardaí in Westport are investigating a fatal collision involving a cyclist and a car which occurred at Knockakeery, Aughagower on Saturday morning (January 10 ).
At approximately 11.30am a 67-year-old male cyclist was fatally injured when he was struck by a car on a minor road at Knockakeery near the village of Aughagower (approximately five miles from Westport ). He was pronounced dead at the scene and later removed to Mayo General Hospital. The driver of the car, a female aged in her 40s, did not require hospital treatment.
The road was closed to traffic and local diversions were in place after the accident and an examination of the scene by Garda forensic collision investigators was continuing on Saturday evening. The local Coroner has been notified.
