Castlebar boxing club is to hold the first tournament of 2015 in Breaffy GAA clubhouse this Sunday, January 11.
The club members are looking to showcase their talents with a full programme featuring their up and coming stars, and also including their more experienced boxers.
Matching has been under way for some time to finalise competition for Castlebar’s more recognisable names like Colm Quinn and Arron Daly, who have already represented Ireland competitively, alongside Stephen Chambers, who would stand equal to any of the top boxers in the country in his respective category.
There is also a host of younger talent expected to feature on the day. From Alex and Stephan Maughan to 11-year-olds Dillon Maher, John McDonnagh, Clint Maughan, James King, and Martin Lawrence and young Jack Neary, who in his recent outings is proving to be a hard nut to crack. Hoping to step into the ring representing the girls is reigning Connacht champion Renee Roache and both of the Cresham sisters Kirsten and Kelly. The boxing is scheduled to get under way at 4pm, and the club Facebook page will have more details closer to the event.
