Mother and son fined for Main Street row

A mother and son who used vulgar language and threatened gardaí during an incident on Main Street, Castlebar, last March have both been fined for breaches of the Public Order Act.

Kathleen McDonagh (42 ) and Jason McDonagh (19 ), both with an address at 35 Coib Abhainn, Turlough Road, Castlebar, pleaded guilty to using threatening, insulting, and abusive behaviour.

The incident arose when a row broke out on Main Street at 2.20am on March 15 last and the pair were asked to leave a taxi.

They at first refused and when they did get out of the car, they were directed by gardaí to leave the area.

Kathleen McDonagh became abusive and stuck her middle fingers up. Her son Jason also became threatening and abusive towards gardaí.

Judge Kevin Kilraine said their conduct on the night was “unacceptable”.

He fined Kathleen McDonagh, who has 26 previous convictions, mainly Road Traffic Act related, €300.

He fined Jason McDonagh, who has two previous Road Traffic Act convictions, €100.
