Five animal welfare organisiations got a boost this week with the announcement of €47,600 in Government funding for their services.
North West SPCA, Killala, has been granted €26,600, while Mayo SPCA Ltd, Ballyhaunis, has been granted €9,600.
The other benefitting organisations are Ainmhithe Animal Rescue, Kincon, Ballina, which has been granted €7,000; Mayo Animal Welfare, Kilmeena, Westport (€3,000 ); and North Mayo Horse Sanctuary, Ballina (€1,000 ).
Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, welcomed the announcement.
“The level of funding being provided to organisations has increased for the fourth year in a row reflecting the importance of the work of these organisations and the overall welfare of animals,” he said.
“This has been a challenging and at times difficult year for animal welfare organisations and continuing reports of animal cruelty have highlighted the need to assist animal welfare organisations in their work.
“I would like to praise these organisations for the fantastic work carried out by them,” concluded Minister Ring.
