A 73-year-old man was fatally injured after being struck by a car at Kilkeeran, Kilmaine, on Sunday evening at approximately 8pm.
The pedestrian was removed from the scene to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, where he died in the early hours of Monday morning (December 22 ).
A post mortem was expected to be carried out after this paper went to print on Monday afternoon. The female driver in her late twenties was uninjured, according to gardai?.
The road was closed for a time on Sunday and into Monday to facilitate the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
