Mayo County Council approved the handing out of €25,000 in arts grants at their December meeting.
In total 13 different organisation were given grants by the local authority for events they held during the year.
Two organisations received €5,000 each, with the Claremorris Arts Committee and Westport Arts Festival both getting the largest payment each. The Ballina Salmon Festival received €3,000 with the Siamsa Straide festival in Swinford and Feile Chois Cuain in Louisburgh getting €2,000 each.
The Achill artists group were awarded €1,800 and Crimlin Community Arts Group getting €1,500 and the Kenny Naughton School receiving €1,200.
Five other groups, Classical Covies, Seosamh Mac Gabhann, Westport Festival of Chamber Music, Westport Blue Grass Festival and Ceol Na Loca all received grants of €900.
In total 21 organisations applied for grants with 13 being successful in their applications, while four of the other applications were for events that did not take place during 2014, three applications didn’t have sufficient documentation and one application wasn’t eligible for consideration for a grant.
