Tesco Castlebar has shared its third donation of €1,000 among three local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative, which will see €1 million donated annually to good causes across Ireland. Voted for by Tesco Castlebar customers, the three charities and organisations to receive their share of the fund are The Irish Wheelchair Association – Castlebar, Mayo Rape Crisis Centre, and Mayo Volunteer Centre.
Commenting on their involvement with the initiative, Loretta McDonagh, Mayo Rape Crisis Centre said: “We are delighted to be involved in the Tesco Community Fund Initiative. This funding has come at a very important time for us and the funds will help us to continue to provide our services in Mayo.”
Every six weeks, three new local good causes are nominated, giving more local groups the opportunity to receive funding. Tesco Castlebar has announced its next local good causes as; Hand in Hand Children Cancer, St Hubert’s Wheelchair Swing Fund, and Children in Hospital – Ireland Castlebar Branch.
Speaking at the presentation, Catherine Swift, store manager, Tesco Castlebar, also commented: “We are delighted to be presenting the donations today to these three fantastic causes and are grateful to all our customers who have voted over the last six weeks. We are really looking forward to helping many more great causes in the community, and urge customers to continue voting and nominating in store.”
Customers are given a token at the checkout every time they shop in the store and then place that token in the box allotted to their favoured local good causes. At the end of every six-week period, the number of tokens received by each good cause is counted and the €1,000 store fund is distributed proportionally to the good causes.
