Castlebar Celtic picked up their seventh point of this year’s Continental Tyre’s Women’s National League with a 2-2 draw at home to second placed UCD Waves last Saturday night in Celtic Park.
The Hoops had to do it the hard way when they were reduced to 10 players five minutes into the second half when goalkeeper Rachel King was sent to the line after she collided with UCD Waves’ Orlagh Nolan outside the penalty area.
The game started well for Celtic with defender Nicole Fowley grabbing her first goal of the season to put Celtic into the lead early on. The students tied the game up with a goal from Aine O’Gorman who bagged her 13th goal of the season in the process. The sides went in level at the break and when Celtic were reduced to 10 players not long after the restart it looked like things could go against them, but Aisling Egan poked the ball home just before the hour mark, Celtic were not able to hold out to the end and UCD levelled the game up 10 minutes from time when Emily Cahill found the back of the Celtic net.
On Sunday afternoon Celtic will face into the first of two long away trips before the Christmas break when they take on Peamount United in Dublin at 2pm. Last weekend Peamount were held to a 2-2 draw by a bottom of the table Cork City in Bishopstown. Celtic will not be in action the following weekend as they have a bye, but they will wrap up their pre-Chirstmas schedule with a trip south to take on Cork City on December 14.
