‘Working class hero’ Damien Dempsey for intimate Castlebar gig

Damien Dempsey is a singer and songwriter who needs little introduction.

Next month, the man described by The Sunday Times as a “real working class hero” is to perform an intimate gig in The Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, and it will surely be a sell-out show.

Dempsey has been lauded by both the critics and his fellow musicians since his debut album in 2000 set him apart as a new Irish voice.

In the intervening 15 years, he has released six top 10 studio albums and won several prestigious Irish Meteor Awards.

He has toured internationally and supported numerous music legends, including Bob Dylan, Sinead O’Connor, Morrissey, and Bruce Springsteen.

In February, he released It’s All Good, The Best of Damien Dempsey, to celebrate his illustrious career to date.

A charismatic live performer, described by Morrissey as possessing an “astounding voice and heart”, Dempsey is known for striking up a genuine rapport with his audiences and this solo Castlebar performance should be honest, fearless, tender and soulful.

Damien Dempsey performs in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on December 13 at 8pm. Booking is strongly advised. Telephone (094 ) 9023733 or visit www.thelinenhall.com
