Castlebar Celtic made the long trip to Ferrycarrig Park last weekend to take on Wexford Youths, but Adrian Carberry’s side went down 3-1 to the league leaders, and their hunt for a third league win of the season will continue on until this weekend.
The Hoops found themselves 2-0 down thanks to goals from Kylie Murphy and Claire O’Riordan with five minutes to go, but a late strike from Aisling Egan gave Celtic a puncher’s chance going down the home straight. However in injury time Amy Walsh found the back of the net again for the hosts and sealed the win the women from the sunny southeast.
Next up for Carberry’s charges is the visit of UCD Waves to Celtic Park tomorrow at 7pm. When the teams met in round three of the league back in September, the students ran out 2-1 winners in Belfield. Celtic found themselves 2-0 down in that game, but a Shauna Jackson goal brought them back into the game late on. Tomorrow night’s game represents the halfway stage of the season, so far Celtic have just two wins to their name from the eight games they have played, while they are well out of contention at the top of the table they have the chance to pull themselves further up the table and away from the battle at the bottom between Galway WFC and Cork City FC over the coming few weeks.
