Wonderful winter scoring around the clubs

Ballyhaunis

In last weekend’s second round of the Winter League, John Moran took home the win in the gents’ competition with a score of 44pts. He finished one point in front of Willie Coyne in second and two points ahead of Tom Prenty in third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Jenny Glynn who scored 37pts, second placed was claimed by Kay Keane three points further behind, with Anne Freeley coming home third. The junior prize was won by Jason Meehan with a score of 32pts.

Ballinrobe

It was round three of the Winter Alliance in the south Mayo club last weekend and John Hudson was the winner of the gents’ category one section with a score of 35pts, the category two win was taken by Michael Divilly with a score of 36pts, and Gerry Scully was the category three winner. The ladies Winter Alliance third round saw Sheila Molloy take the win with a score of 36pts and Maura Joyce win the eight hole competition with a score of 21pts.

Belmullet

There was a tough battle for first spot in last weekend’s competition in the north Mayo course, there was only point separating first and second place at the end with Ronan Gaughan taking the win with 41pts and Nathan Ruddy coming home in second on 40pts.

Castlebar

The gents’ Winter League reached the third round last weekend and Rory Courell’s team with a score of 93pts were the weekly winners. They took the win on countback after Eamon Byrne’s team also finished on 93pts, third place went to the side led by Dom Molloy who scored 91pts for their round. In the weekly singles competition Ray Prendergast was the winner with a score of 38pts. All the scores and the group tables from the league are available at www.castlebargolfclub.ie The club’s AGM will take place on Friday November 21 at 8pm in the clubhouse.

Claremorris

It was round three of the Winter League in Claremorris Golf Club last weekend and John Donnellan took home the win for the week with good score of 38pts. John Monaghan finished in second place thanks to his back nine play after he and third placed Padraig Mannion, both scored 35pts. The ladies’ competition was won by Riana Kean who also scored 35pts for her 18 holes.

Mulranny

There were winners on and off the course last weekend in Mulranny, with the club fundraising raffle taking place, with Willie McGee from Ryevale Lawns, Leixlip, Kildare, winning first prize of a motorised trolley and bag, while Sean Heverin from Derrycoosh in Castlebar came out second to win four greens fees for the K Club.

In the action on the course, Colin Cooney was the winner of the 15-hole competition with a score of 34pts. Pat Mulchrone finished in second place, while Fergus Rothwell came home in third place.

In the Winter League after four rounds Fergus Rothwell’s team have a commanding lead with a score of 293pts, the teams captained by Brendan Patten and Patsy Noone are tied in joint second with 271pts each, while the rest of the leader board is just as tight, with two rounds remaining. The club’s AGM will take place this evening, Friday, at 8pm in the clubhouse.
